Pumpkin - the taste of autumn!

Pumpkin - the taste of autumn!

Who doesn't know the pumpkin ?

A vegetable that appeals to the imagination, magic, but also health!

The fairy tale Cinderella immortalised this vegetable when the fairy Godmother turned a pumpkin into a beautiful carriage! The Halloween festival (celebrated on October 31st) uses the pumpkin as its main and universal symbol. The Celtic people used it as a way of celebrating communion with the spirits of the Beyond…. Other ancient people such as the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs used the smallest pumpkins as lanterns, containers for transporting wine, milk or cereals and the larger ones were used as musical instruments, dishes and other utensils.

The oldest known squash dates back to 6,000 BC in Mexico, but it is not entirely clear whether it originated in Central America or India. A fact is that today more than 900 different species of pumpkin are known. Thus, you can find pumpkins of different colours (both outside and inside), sizes and shapes. It belongs to the family of cucurbits (cucumber, chayote, watermelon, cantaloupe).
